Another light novel series by Reki Kawahara. Only this time the illustrator was HiMA while the publication was ASCII MediaWorks’ Dengeki Bunko. So far the series has inspired two manga series, an anime, and two video games, one for PSP and one for PS3.
Accel World follows a short, fat school boy named Haruyuki Aeita (Haru). He is constantly bullied at his school, Umesato Junior High School, giving him low self esteem. He logs onto the schools Local Network to play squash. He finds out soon that a player, Kuroyukihime, has beaten his high score. She is a popular, attractive student at his school. She invites him to lunch after saving him from bullies. At this lunch she changed his life, introducing him to Brain Burst. This is a secret program helping people to accelerate their cognitive process at which time can stop. Not only that, it is a virtual reality video game. To obtain Brain Burst, you must duel other players. This will also expand their acceleration process in real life as well. Kuroyukihime is helping Haru to reach level 10 so they can meet the creator and find out the truth behind the game.
Why I chose this anime: I really liked this series when compared to SAO. Accel World was great not only in characters and plot, but also the animation and soundtrack.
