Psychological and Sociological Influences:

.hack//Sign is filled with these types of influences, the main three being anxiety, escapism, and interpersonal relationships. Tsukasa, a Wavemaster and main character, is a player of a virtual reality MMORPG. The World is where Tsukasa awakens in a dungeon. He has short term memory loss and wonders who and where he is. He is unable to log out as well. He must go on a quest to find out who he is and how to get out of The World. It is easy to see how these psychological and sociological influences could occur.

Throughout the series, the viewer is often fed false information until the end when everything unravels to keep the suspense and interest. If not the slow pace and character dialogue filled anime could lose some watchers. The story mainly relies on the characters development through the predicament allowing the psychological influences to take hold.
