Anime of the Week:Speed Racer (Mach GoGoGo)

Speed Racer (Mach GoGoGo)

Speed Racer

Mach GoGoGo was designed by Tatsuo Yoshida. Mach GoGoGo was inspired by Pilot Ace, Yoshida’s earlier work. The main plot of Pilot Ace formed the biggest structure for Mach GoGoGo.
It was originally serialized in the 1958 Shonen Book by Shueisha’s. Sun Wide Comics began releasing the series into tankobon books and they were later re-released by Fusosha. It was not until 2008 that the series was published completely in America. It was released as a 40th Anniversary commemorative box set. In 1967 an animated series began. The TV animated series ran for 52 episodes. Fuji TV aired the series from April of 1967 to September of 1968. The series was a success in the United States and was able to have many spinoffs due to this.
The series follows the adventures of Go Mifune (Speed Racer) and his love for racing. The series has many different plot lines that it follows. He drives a car called the Mach 5 and races dangerous paths. The races are usually competitive and someone could die as most people have weapons attached to their cars. He is in search of his brother that died in one of these races.

Why I Chose This Anime? A classic in its own rights. The series may be awful to watch in dubbed, but try to give the subtitled a try. It makes more sense that way.
