Where do the Titans Come From?

Hello everyone Flint here. Today I’m going to cover a question that many people ask and that is “What is the Origins of the Titans?” Now remember this is just a theory so it doesn’t have to believed but this is my take-on of the question. But before I begin I’ll explain some details about the Titans themselves.

The Titan threat against humanity first emerged in the year 743, destroying a heavy majority of the global human population. Some texts tell us we crossed a large body of water to reach a place prepared beforehand, containing three Walls: Maria, Rose, and Sina. However, with the Fall of Shinganshina in the year 845, the Survey Corp added on the mission of learning more about the enemy. Through information accumulated, theories on the origins of Titans and their Shifter counterparts have started to appear.

Titans are humanoid creatures that appear to be deformed and lack visible genitalia. They commonly range from 3-15 meters in height, with the Colossal Titan and the Titans Within the Walls being approximately 60 meters.

Research indicates that they have no digestive track and whatever they consume is eventually thrown up in globs of corrosive slime and human body parts. However, this process of human consumption appears to not be for caloric needs. It is assumed that due to their need for light, Titans are conductive with thermal energy, especially with their high body temperature. This also matches with their need for sunlight and the fact that few can continue on into the night if there is torch nearby.

Their bodies are abnormally light for their size and have a regenerative ability that is powerful enough to heal any wound except for an attack on the nape of the neck. Research after the discovery of Shifters has led to the theory that the reason of the nape being the only weak spot is due to the previous presence of a human pilot. Recent discoveries have revealed that the spinal column appears to be the only part of humans that survives complete descent into ‘Titan Madness’ (loss of humanity after becoming a Titan) or complete absorption into the Titan form. They also produce high levels of heat and steam, especially as they regenerate and after they’ve been killed. External sources and philosophical theories from documents grabbed by the First Squad present the possibility that a dehumanized scientist experimented with normal materials, which I shall expand upon in the next section. Using this, he changed himself into the First Titan (The Beast Titan) and turned his most loyal subordinates into Shifters.

They worked, creating a massive army that was able to almost wipe out humanity. As part of his scheme, he also created the Coordinate ability, which is the ability to control other titans. However, both this and the Shifting formula were stolen and hidden behind the Walls e.g Eren’s basement perhaps?

Due to the nature of the Titans, it is logical to assume that there is an agent involved with their creation. This agent is twofold, being both a human creator and a physiological organism that causes the change. Thus, there would also be two strains, one meant for creating the common, mindless Titan, and a second meant for the forging of Titan Shifters, likely meant to be generals for the armies of Titans that would swoop down upon the Realm of Man and destroy it.

Certain characteristics of Titans, such as expanding, heat, and steam, lines up with yeast, especially after being activated. This yeast, now airborne due to the high production rate in Wall Sina, is baked into every loaf of bread produced within the Walls. This can imply that there is a plot amongst the King and his advisors to prepare humanity for war against a force much more dangerous than the Titans or that the Titans are a means by which to create a centralized society in which the Monarchy will have complete control. Due to where the yeast is, the Ragako incident makes more sense in how the First Titan was able to turn the villagers into Titans (read chapter 51 of the manga for more information on the Ragako incident) . All of this leads to the belief that the Titan threat was manufactured by more than one party.

Science behind the Yeast-based Titan Strain theory:

    a. Just like how yeast preserves the food it surrounds, so do Titans with the human they were created from. This is also supported by the case of Shifter Ymir, who spent 60 years stuck in Titan form and came out looking just like how she did when she first took on that form.

    b. Yeast produces heat and gas, which is why it makes bread rise. These same two traits – heat and gas – are expelled by all Titans and Shifters, especially when they are hacked apart. Another aspect of the increase in size caused by yeast is that there is no change in mass, even though it appears larger. Experiments involving Titan limbs reveals that they are abnormally light.

    c. The protein Mannose-binding lectin (Protein C) 2 or MBL, located in human blood, binds with yeast. This works into the Shifter aspect, explaining why they must spill blood in order to cause the reaction.

The yeast then uses the MBL and the extra electrical energy to produce the Titan structure. It can also bind through the porous regions around the eyes, which happens to be a common bind point for Shifters.

    d. The observed rainbow strands that appear during regeneration grow in the same way as threads of yeast as it grows.

    e. This only applies to Shifters, but the reasoning behind the markings beneath their eyes lies in the porous nature of the skin around the eyes. It is likely that external yeast is able to bond with MBL through the skin, which happens to leave scarring when they break out of their Titan form.

Thank you for your time and I hoped you enjoy my theory!

  • Otaku Theory Time: Will Luffy Die in the Future of One Piece?

    Will Luffy Die?

Hey guys, Flint here. If you watch One Piece, then you know that the main character Monkey D. Luffy is “a little reckless”. But could you imagine him eventually dying? I know it seems highly unlikely to happen but I’ve done my research and I actually found some interesting facts that could lead to Luffy’s death.

    Theory 1: Gear Two

If some of you don’t know, every time Luffy uses Gear Two he shortens his lifespan slightly. If you don’t know what Gear Two is, it’s basically an upgrade Luffy discovered from his Gomu Gomu no Mi Devil Fruit, which gives him to ability to move at extreme speed. Now think about this. Oda, the creator of One Piece has conformed that the series will continue on for another ten years! Now within those ten more years, Luffy will constantly be using Gear Two to fight enemies. Plus, Oda may add another time-skip which could increase that amount of times Luffy is using it. Couldn’t this severely damage his health a.k.a causing him to die? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Theory 2: Ivankov’s Emporio Chiyu Hormone ability

Ivankov is a high ranking member in the Revolutionary Army and is quite a strange character indeed. He ate the Horu Horu no Mi Devil Fruit which gives him powers to control hormones in his and other people’s bodies. Now one of his abilities is to heal people who are in critical condition.

When Luffy was extremely hurt from his escape from Imperial Down, Ivankov injected Luffy with his Emporio Chiyu Hormon ability (literally meaning “Emporio Healing Hormone). He made a full recovery although this cause ten years from his life to be taken away! (Hint Hint, One Piece is ending in 10 years!)

Not to mention, Ivankov injected Luffy twice with this ability, the second time at Marineford. This has shortened Luffy’s lifespan greatly, which may lead to his death in the future.

Anyways that’s all for today. I honesty don’t want to see Luffy die as he is probably my favourite anime character.

But if Oda makes the decision to kill him at the end, I will not complain. The One Piece story is incredible and as long as I can see each crew member of the Straw Hats achieving there dreams, I will be happy with the ending.

Thank you for reading and I’ll see you guys next time!

  • Otaku Theory Time: Is Totoro the God of Death?

    Is Totoro Death?

    Major Spoilers

“My Neighbor Totoro” is a Japanese animation film that if you watch it once, you fall in love with it. Many people can agree to that.

However, what if I told you there is a theory about a dark secret behind such an innocent film?

    Satsuki and Mei are dead

The film is about sisters Satsuki and Mei moving to the country side with their father. Their mother is in hospital due to an illness. Mei meets Totoro, but it seems she’s the only one that is able to see him.

In the later half of the movie, Mei, the younger of the sibiling, goes missing, and Satsuki, the older, attempts to find her. There is a scene where the old lady next door found a slipper near a lake. Fearing that Mei may have been drowned, the old lady asks Satsuki if the slipper belongs to Mei when she arrives at the scene. Satsuki says “It’s not Mei’s” and everyone is relieved. However, this is where the theory starts.

The theory is that the slipper did in fact belong to Mei and she has drowned, but Satsuki lied to relieve the adults. Theory backs up this point with the fact that the slipper is same color was Mei’s shoes.

Another weird thing is if you look closely at Mei in the later half, her shadow is more transparent than it was in the first half. Her shadows became more faint.

Then, when Satsuki is calling out her sister’s name, and running around, she passes by Ojizou-san( the stone statues). These Ojizou-san are usually found near actual graveyards in Japan. Ojizou-san are also said to be guardians of children’s souls.

If you look at the scene frame-by-frame, there’s name “Mei” engraved in one of the statues.

At the end of the movie where the two sisters are united, they leave some corn by there mothers bedside and then go and sit on a tree with Totoro. The question is, why didn’t they directly go see there mother? This might suggest that they are dead by this point. And then their mother says an unforgettable line; “I think i just heard Satsuki and Mei laughing just now”. If she’s able to hear her supposely-dead daughters, wouldn’t that suggest she herself is close to death as well or is already dead?

Also, the name of the hospital that their mom is at is named Shichikokuyama (七国山病院). In Japan, there is an hospital called Hachikokuyama (八国山病院). Notice how these two hospitals have identical names? Not to mention Hachikokuyama hospital is located in almost the same environment as does the hospital in the movie.

At the credit scene we see the photo of the family, but the mother and father look a lot younger then during the main film. This suggest that the photo was taken before the movie and not after.

    Connection to Sayama case

ln May of 1963, in a part of Japan called Sayama, a high school girl gets kidnapped. Her older sister desperately looks for her. A few days later, she find the younger sister brutally murdered. It is said her slipper was found near the spot where they found her body and 6 Ojizou-san were near her body. Hmm it’s quite strange how this case resembles what happened in the film

Also, at the beginning of the movie when the old lady picks up the box that was dropped, the box is labeled 狭山茶, Sayama Tea. According to the rumors, a tea field is where the older sister found her dead sister.

    Totoro=God of Death

The Cat-bus destination panel flashes 墓道, which can be translated to “Path of Grave”, then the panel flashes the name, めい (Mei), as Satsuki gets on. And then there’s the song verse that goes “He comes to you, only when you are still a child”.

In the beginning, Only Mei is able to see Totoro, and Satsuki can see him after Mei goes missing. Satsuki calls out to Totoro, before she can see him, “Mei is all alone and crying. Please take me to her”. Immediately Satsuki can see Totoro afterwards. This indicates that she called out to the God of Death to take her so she can be reunited with her sister.

Thank you all for reading and have a good day!
