    AnoHana Anime Review

    AnoHana

I had been looking for a short anime to watch for quite some time. I hardly have time to watch anime, which is why I end up reading more manga. I talked to several of my friends at work and on the Anime Amino app about what to watch next. Finally me and a friend at work were talking and I decided I needed a good tear jerker. So he suggested AnoHana. I remembered I had recently gotten a hold of the anime online, so I decided to give it a shot. I began watching it in a very bad mood, so after two episodes I gave up thinking it was going to turn into something perverted. My friend said to keep going, so I did. While the anime was good on several parts, the ending was just not satisfactory and the characters were a let down.

    The Plot of AnoHana

    AnoHana
The plot of AnoHan basically revolves around a group of five high school students. They had been friends in their younger years, but had grown apart after the death of Menma, their sixth friend. Before her death they were inseparable and had created a club called the Super Peace Busters. It consisted of three boys and three girls. Their leader was Jintan. Menma died not to long after the creation of the club. They grew apart, but never forgot Menma and each held their own guilt for her death. After ten years of Memna’s death, Jintan begins to see her ghost. She keeps telling him she has to grant one last wish before she leaves for good. Jintan must gather the other four members and grant her wish.
Overall the plot was great. The story of AnoHana is really good when you think about it, a friend dies and the others have to help them move on. I love romance stories and a good cry. My only problem with AnoHana is the fact that there are to many love triangles. Seriously not one person in the anime like the other mutual person besides two. It was really over the top at times as well. The last episode would have been a lot better if it was not for all the over the top crying. The anime is not a bad one though, do not get me wrong, it was really good to watch. I would recommend this to anyone who likes romances or need to cry.

    The Characters of AnoHana

    AnoHana

    Menma and Jintan
    Menma and Jintan

The characters are somewhat average on the outside, but on the inside some are a bit more. The main character Jintan is a gamer. He stays inside and plays games all day. Feeling the worst about Memna’s death, he hardly ever shows up to school. Menma is still a bit childish due to the age of her death, so her character dynamic is understandable. The interaction of the two together is really where Jintan’s character shines. He is more outgoing and is pushed to do things more often. They interact very humorously especially when someone else is around.

    AnoHana
    Poppo and Anaru

The other four members of the Super Peace Busters seem like basic characters. Anaru is the outgoing and flirty popular girl. Though she seems to fit in with her group, once the six friends begin to get back together, she is very out of place. She is more quiet than them and becomes more recluse. Poppo is just your basic a little over weight male character. He is very annoying to me, but I understand his role in the end. He is a very over th top character much like Anaru. These two characters were not my favorites.

    AnoHana
    Tsuruko and Yukiatsu

The last two members of the Super Peace Busters happen to be my favorite. Yukiatsu and Tsuruko are in an elite school. They are much smarter than the others and more driven in life. Yukiatsu is quiet and very popular amongst the girls, but will pay them no attention. He also has a very dark secret. He hates Jintan and the fact he keeps bringing up Menma’s death. Tsuruko follows Yukiatsu everywhere. She is extremely quiet and basically only interacts with Yukiatsu until the Menma comes back. They are both very intelligent but Tsuruko seems to be more open minded than Yukiatsu.

    AnoHana

Overall the anime was fairly decent. I enjoyed watching AnoHana and would probably watch it again if I had time. I would have liked the story to have at least continued a little after the ending, just to see how the characters were really handling things. The story was great, not executed greatly, but still great. It moved me in a way Grave of the Fireflies moved me. The characters may have been over the top at times, but still not enough to ruin the series. The last episode is the only problem when it comes to crying. By the time you get there you are either to tired of crying to cry anymore, or the characters crying so over the top will ruin it for you. I still enjoyed it none the less. The animation was not the best, but it could have been a lot worst. The same goes for the background music. I honestly did not notice it at all. It did not make a lasting impression on me. It seems everything in the anime was half done, but still done to a point it was stand-able to watch.

    Overall Grade 5/10
