Due to the fact She and Her Cat is only five minutes long, this review will be short. She and Her Cat is story told through Chobi’s point of view. He is cat that was picked up by ‘She’ on a rainy spring day. She brings him home and ends up keeping him. Through out the span of one year, Chobi decides to tell the story of ‘She’ through his eyes. After over hearing a phone conversation with She, Chobi notices her depression. Whatever the reason, it is not her fault what happened on the phone. He consoles her the best he can as a cat. He also has a female cat named Mimi, fall in love with him and propose marriage. He refuses because he is in love with his owner. In the end the two are happy and the very last line is them saying together, “This world, I think we like it.”

Makoto Shinkai completely developed She and Her Cat, except for the music. A total of five months went into working on the anime. He recorded the work of Chobi in his living room while using knowledge from his work with Falcom to do the animation. As this is one of his earlier works, he is better known for his work with Voices of a Distant Star, The Place Promised in Our Early Days, and Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below. He got Falcom to record all the music for She and Her Cat.

In his work 5 Centimeters per Second, Chobi appears on the side of the street. Akari bends down to pet a cat named Chobi and then mentions something about Mimi. In Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below, Asuna has a cat named Mimi.
